PHOTODAMAGE
Sun Exposure Causes Visible Signs of Photoaging
Exposure to sunlight accounts for nearly all the symptoms of premature skin aging. Science now recognizes that many of the skin changes once attributed to intrinsic [chronological] aging actually result from DNA damage caused by UV radiation.
The signs of Photodamage include
- Freckles and Age Spots
- Spider Veins
- Rough, Leathery Skin
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Loose, Dry Skin
- Uneven Complexion
Glogau Photodamage Classification Scale
The Glogau scale was developed by Richard G. Glogau, M.D., a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California,
San Francisco, and a leader in the field of cosmetic dermatology and dermatologic research.
This scale is designed to objectively measure the severity of photoaging. It is also used for determining appropriate treatments
for different skin types, understanding that there are progressing degrees of photoaging within each classification.
